Goals

    UVAC will acquire and manage collections for the following reasons:
  • to compliment academic programs
  • to enhance public spaces
  • to reinforce themes already evident in the collections: decorative and applied arts with a European emphasis, Canadian art with a western emphasis, Pacific Rim anthropology
  • UVAC will communicate with its public in the following manner: temporary exhibitions, loan and self generated publications, print and electronic media public lectures and academic symposia, as they relate to collections and exhibitions community awareness programs, including advertising in all media and special events

    UVAC operations will balance professional staffing with opportunities for student work experience by
  • maintaining professional management and direction for administrative operations
  • maximizing opportunities for temporary student employment
  • planning projects and tasks to integrate collections management activities with discipline-related course work
  • accommodating faculty teaching and research programs
  • UVAC will administer its collections and the information related to them so as to balance maximum public access with minimum risk of loss or deterioration while observing professional standards of museum management and practice.
