Martin's Departure

As I leave Maltwood after 37 years, I just wanted to personally thank you for your support of Maltwood over the years, and in particular for responding and contributing to our (first) annual appeal.

UVic has given me a marvelous and varied career, both academic and administrative, and in a large part it has been connecting with such a wide range of interesting people: colleagues, students, and many members of the wider community who have taken an interest in our collections and programs. I am sure you will continue your interest and support.

Joy Davis, well known for her work developing our very successful Cultural Resource Management Program with the Faculties of Fine Arts and Continuing Studies, has accepted the position of interim director for a year while the University reviews the position of director and conducts the search for a permanent replacement.

Once again thank you for your support, and I wish you all the very best for 2011.

Warm regards,

Martin Segger

A Note from Interim Director Joy Davis

We are excited at the opportunity to strengthen our exhibition, teaching and research activities at both the Legacy Gallery downtown and the Maltwood Prints and Drawings Gallery at the McPherson Library. Both these spaces combine gallery, classroom and study spaces that better connect teachers, students, scholars and community members with the wonderful art and objects in our collections. At the same time, we are sad to close the door of the Maltwood exhibition space in the University Centre. As we make these transitions we want to reassure you that our collections continue to be valued, cared for and shared in increasingly exciting ways—and we look forward to welcoming you in our new gallery spaces.
